It is indeed a great honour to be invited to participate in the 2007 First China and Malaysia International Ornamental Stone and Painting and Calligraphy Art Invitation Exhibition. We are indebted to the Guangxi Research & Exchange Centre for the Eastern Stone Culture, Guangxi Arts Collector Association and the Guangxi View Stone Association for their kind invitation.
I understand that the driving force behind this worthy exhibition is Mr. Ma Hongbin, a renowned stone culture artist and painter/calligrapher in China who has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the culture of stone appreciation not only in China but internationally as well. His efforts to initiate this Exhibition are very much appreciated by all of us.
The art of suiseki or Chinese Scholars? Stones goes back a long way in Chinese culture and history. Today it has become a popular and much loved art form all over the world, representing a process, a feeling, and also a sense of harmony between the stone and the viewer.
Suiseki has a loyal and steady following in Malaysia and through international exhibitions like this we have been able to meet, discuss and and extend our hand of friendship to various enthusiasts of this beloved art from all over the world. On behalf of the Malaysia Bonsai & Suiseki Society I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to the organisers of this exhibition and wish them every success. May this be the start of many more such exhibitions to come.
